The Paxton is a cedar barrel sauna with a covered front porch, seating four to six on two 75-inch benches. The PrairieFire™ 9 kW heater is rated for 462 cubic feet against a cabin of 201.5 — more than double the volume it actually has to heat — which is why the sauna comes up to temperature in 20 to 30 minutes and holds it without labouring. Maximum temperature is 194°F.
A Wi-Fi control panel means you start it from your phone rather than walking out to the garden, waiting, and walking back. On a sauna with a half-hour warm-up, that is the difference between using it on a weeknight and only using it on weekends.
The cabin is built from 30 mm tongue-and-groove cedar with an 8 mm tempered glass door, under a 29-gauge powder-coated galvanized steel roof. It sits on roto-molded HDPE cradles that lift the barrel clear of ground moisture, and every part of it is covered by a 5-year warranty.

Before You Order
- Measure the footprint. With the porch, the sauna is 101.5 inches deep — over eight and a half feet — by 76 inches wide and 80 inches tall. Check the route to your chosen spot as well as the spot itself.
- Prepare the base first. It needs a firm, level surface rated to carry over 1,000 lb, and it anchors to concrete or with ground stakes. Get this done before the kit arrives.
- You will need a licensed electrician. The heater is hard-wired to a dedicated 240 V, 50 amp circuit — 9,600 watts. That is a substantial circuit, often a panel-capacity question rather than just a cable run, so get it quoted before you order.
- Check local codes and permits. An outdoor structure of this size plus a 50 amp circuit may require a permit or inspection depending on your municipality.
- Allow clearance around the barrel for drainage, airflow and access to the electrical connection, and site it where rain and snow run off cleanly.
Care and Maintenance
- After each use: leave the door ajar so the cabin dries out fully. Trapped moisture is what damages sauna interiors.
- Regularly: wipe the benches down and let them dry, sweep the floor, and clear debris from around the heater and off the porch.
- Annually: inspect the roof, the door seal, the cradles and the anchors, and check the sauna stones — stones break down over time and should be rearranged or replaced when they start to crumble.
- Keep the roof clear of leaves and snow load.
Safety Information
All electrical work must be carried out by a licensed electrician in accordance with local codes. Do not use the sauna until the electrical installation is complete and inspected. Pour water only on the sauna stones, never on the heater body or elsewhere in the cabin. Keep the area around the heater clear at all times and never cover it. Do not leave children unattended in or near the sauna, and never leave it running unattended. Assemble on a firm, level base rated for the full weight of the structure, and anchor it as instructed.
Sauna bathing raises your core body temperature and heart rate. Limit sessions, cool down between them and drink water. Do not use the sauna under the influence of alcohol or if you are pregnant. If you have a heart condition, low or high blood pressure, circulatory problems, or any other medical condition, or you are taking medication, consult a qualified physician before using a sauna.
