SaunaLife E7 ERGO Series Barrel Sauna — 4-Person, Thermo-Spruce, Standing Height

Description

The Model E7 is a four-person barrel sauna from SaunaLife's ERGO Series, 81" in diameter and 71" long, with 6'5" of interior height at the centerline. Headroom is the usual casualty of barrel construction — the curve that makes a barrel efficient to heat is the same curve that takes the ceiling away — so a barrel you can stand upright in down the middle is worth noting.

The shell is full-length Thermo-Spruce staves, 1.65" thick, drawn tight by stainless steel bands 1-7/8" wide and 1/8" thick. Full-length means each stave runs the whole barrel with no butt joint, so there is no end-grain seam along the wall to open up as the wood cycles through wet and dry. Thermal modification — kiln-treating the timber at high temperature in low oxygen — drives out moisture and breaks down the sugars fungi feed on, so the wood absorbs less water, moves less with humidity, and resists rot without chemical preservatives. On an outdoor structure that will sit through years of freeze-thaw, that is the whole argument for thermo-wood.

Benches and backrests are knot-free Thermo-Aspen at 1.1" thick, the benches built from 3.5"-wide slats at a 17.8" seat depth, with arched backrests following the barrel's curve. Aspen is the traditional choice for contact surfaces because it stays cool to the touch and carries no resin pockets to weep at temperature; knot-free stock means no hard, hot knots under bare skin.

Practical details are handled properly. Two floor drains — one beneath the heater, one near the door — carry away water from löyly and from washing down, rather than leaving it to sit in the lowest part of the curve. Separate intake and exhaust vents move air through the room during a session. The roof is a black shingle kit with drip edge. The door is 5/16" tempered bronze glass.

Lighting is a white LED light bar controlled either by Wi-Fi app or by the included handheld remote. Two colored lighting packages, E SCONCE+ and E MOOD, are available separately.

The E7 is handcrafted in Northern Europe and ships as a kit. SaunaLife specifies a two-person, one-day assembly, and supplies the fastener kit, installation instructions, two spare Thermo-Spruce staves, a heater guard, and a bottle of paraffin oil for treating the interior.

A sauna heater and controls are not included.

Before you buy

• The heater and controls are a separate purchase — and the choice affects your warranty. SaunaLife's warranty treats the addition of a non-approved heating system as an alteration that voids coverage, and heaters are excluded from the warranty in any case. Confirm which heaters are approved for the E7 before buying one. A heater guard is supplied with the kit.
• Electrical work must be done by a licensed electrician to local code; requirements depend on the heater selected.
• Plan the base. At 1,213 lb assembled, the E7 needs a level, load-rated surface with drainage beneath the two floor drains. SaunaLife does not publish foundation specifications on the product page — request the installation guide before siting it.
• The interior needs periodic treatment. A bottle of paraffin oil ships with the kit for preserving the interior wood; plan on reapplying it as part of normal maintenance.
• Residential use only — commercial installation voids the warranty.
• Inspect every component on delivery, before assembly. SaunaLife's warranty excludes defects, transport damage included, that would have been detectable by visual inspection prior to installation.
